Birding Santa pola area

Sunday 13 February

Trevor and I decided to take very casual look around our local area leaving at 9 oclock doing our usual route across the Salinas. A few Great White Egrets, large canteen of Spoonbill's an Osprey flew over, and a few distant Marsh Harriers. There seams to be more waders around than a few weeks ago, with Kentish Plover, Ringed Plover, Woods Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Avocet, little Stint and Dunlin. Large raft of Great crested Grebe and Slender billed Gulls.

The Common Sandpiper was just a few meters away, I was taking a few photos when the camera malfunction, I had to reformat the card to get the camera going again losing all the photos of the Common Sandpiper.

There was nothing of note a El Pinet, heading off we took a detour around the higher ground around the back of La Marina, a new route for us this area is looking very promising and will revisit it the next time. Black Redstart, Stone Curlew, Serin, Chaffinch, Linnet, Tree Sparrows, in the almond Trees, we stopped for a cup of tea, and i took advantage of a close male Black Redstart, and the camera locked up again, (reformating the card again) luckily I did have another lens and camera with us, we ended up on the Monastery road and we took a short cut too.

The area around palm farm road which had a few flooded fields along its length with Lapwing, Golden Plover, Water Pipit, Blue Throat, large numbers of Snipe in one of the flooded fields, unusually in these flood field held no Cattle Egrets or Glossy Ibis, maybe the hunters who were shooting close by had some thing to do with there absents.

We bumped into Paul and Greta from CBBC Bird Club and exchanged info and greetings and it was nice to see them again. There were a few raptor up Booted Eagle plus a Dark Phase, Marsh Harrier, Buzzard, Kestrel,

We had quick look at Sante Agueda, a nice flooded field on route some Glossy Ibis and Water Pipit. Skylarks and Crested Lark close by.

At San Felip there was a really pristine Blue Throat but, the camera malfunctioned yet again so I didn't get any photos at San Felip, also a big flock of Glossy Ibis there.

I know why the card was locking up? as I had been transferring the card to different camera's and different makes of camera, which sort of messed it up the card, its now is working fine after a reformat on the computer.

have fun
